Cox Offers "Republican Vision For Black America" At "Sisters On Target" EventCAMPAIGN 2008: MEDIA ADVISORY Cox Speech is Response to Talk Show Host Smiley's Criticism of GOP DES MOINES GALA HONORS AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN WHAT Cox's appearance is notable in light of talk show host Tavis Smiley's recent rant against the top-tier Republican presidential candidates. Romney, Guiliani, and McCain were no-shows at Smiley's recent Maryland University Republican presidential debate in front of an all-African American audience. Smiley criticized the candidates for ignoring the issues of Black America. Cox was not invited to participate in that debate and will address the issues of Black America from a needed Republican standpoint. At this point, Cox is the only Republican presidential candidate planning to be in attendance at the "Sisters on Target" Event. WHERE BACKGROUND John H. Cox, 51, is the first announced Republican candidate for president in 2008. In addition to running successful companies in real estate, law, and venture capital, John Cox helped turn around major potato chip manufacturer, Jays Foods, saving hundreds of jobs and turning millions of dollars in loss into profit.
