GOP Candidate Critical Of Bush's Sidestep Of Iraq ShootingFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Laura Grock/Martin Janis & Co. September 21, 2007 GOP CANDIDATE CRITICAL OF BUSH'S SIDESTEP OF IRAQ SHOOTING President Bush on Thursday refused to criticize a U.S. security company in Iraq accused in a shooting that left 11 civilians dead, saying investigators need to determine if the guards violated rules governing their operations. Presidential candidate John Cox disagrees. Here's his statement: "There should be an immediate and thorough investigation of the U.S. Security company by American MPs. If investigators find that a crime was committed, the offenders should be brought to the U.S. for retention and trial." "This all comes back to what I have said many times before - we need to re-focus on Iraqi oil production and improve the economic situation for all Iraqis. This Blackwater situation is the result of enemy militias and insurgencies being able to recruit from a disaffected population." "America risks another even more serious black eye if President Bush sidesteps this very serious matter. The last thing we need is more fuel to the fire with more Iraqis joining the insurgency against us."
