Press Release

Presidential Candidate John Cox Takes 1st and 2nd Place in Two South Carolina Straw Polls

For Immediate Release

April 23, 2007 - South Carolina - Last week, Republican Presidential Candidate John Cox beat out all of the other Presidential candidates in the Aiken County GOP Straw Poll, and earned 2nd place in the McCormick County GOP Straw Poll. John's success in these two important straw polls further underlines the fact that Republicans are looking for an alternative to the current front runners, and John Cox possesses the needed credentials. Being the "First in the South", victories in South Carolina have become essential and John's message and ability to communicate it is resonating. This comes despite the fact that the national news media is not even generally reporting that he is even a candidate.

Between April 18th and April 21st, four of the Republican county conventions conducted a Presidential straw poll. Greenville and Richland are two of the largest counties in the state, Aiken is medium in size, and McCormick is more rural. By combining the results from all four of these counties, Republican Presidential candidate John Cox finished in 5th place; defeating far more well known candidates John McCain, Sam Brownback, Fred Thompson, Newt Gingrich, Tom Tancredo, Ron Paul, and Jim Gilmore.

Combined Results from the Greenville, Richland (Columbia), Aiken, and McCormick County Presidential Straw Polls: Mitt Romney 32%; Mike Huckabee 17%; Duncan Hunter 14%; Rudy Giuliani 12%; John Cox 8%; John McCain 6%; Sam Brownback 6%; Fred Thompson 2%; Newt Gingrich 1%; Tom Tancredo, Ron Paul, and Jim Gilmore each received less than 1% of the votes.

John Cox stated, "The people voting in these straw polls are Republican activists, they are the backbone of the Republican Party and they know where the front-runner Republican Presidential candidates stand on the issues. I am very pleased with the amount of support I received despite the fact that the media is paying very little attention to my campaign."

Cox then went on to say, "At these four recent county conventions, I had the opportunity to meet with delegates and many got to hear my message for the first time. In the larger counties like Greenville and Richland, the major, well funded and well reported campaigns have many local officials on the payroll and have spent huge resources. In some of the mid size and smaller counties, the major campaigns aren't making the same investment and our message has a better chance to be heard. When given the chance for my message to be heard on a level playing field, I am able to produce results. That is why I took 2nd place in the McCormick county straw poll on Wednesday, and on Thursday I came in 1st place in the Aiken county straw poll."

John H. Cox, 51, is the first announced Republican candidate for president in 2008. He is a CPA, real estate broker, attorney and investment advisor. He has founded and run five companies. He is the former president of the Cook County (IL) Republican Party. John Cox lives in Chicago, IL with his wife and four daughters.
